The careers of 3D Modeler and Character Rigger are foundational, operating at the beginning of the production pipeline, and require highly specialized technical skills. The Modeler is the digital sculptor, creating the clean, optimized geometric surface of characters, props, and environments, often specializing in either Organic Modeling (living things) or Hard-Surface Modeling (vehicles, machinery). The Rigger then constructs the internal skeleton, controls (IK/FK), and deformation system that makes the model animatable.
These roles are ideal for students who thrive on precision, technical problem-solving, and adherence to strict pipeline specifications. A Modeler’s portfolio must demonstrate clean topology and realistic texturing, while a Rigger’s reel should showcase a fully functional, user-friendly rig that can achieve a wide range of motion and expression without breaking the mesh.
